Webinar: CICA Peer Learning - Narrative Career Counselling: A Storied Approach Across Life Roles

CDAA invites you to our inaugural CICA peer learning session with Kate Flaherty.

Following CICA’s webinar on Narrative Career Counselling: A Storied Approach Across Life Roles, CDAA is hosting a peer learning session for members to reflect on the content, share practice insights and explore how the ideas may apply in career development practice.

This session will focus on the storied approach, which supports clients to make sense of their lives, choices and future possibilities through the stories they tell about themselves, their experiences and their career journey.

Participants will have the opportunity to discuss how career stories are shaped by different life roles, including learning, working, relationships, values and experiences of joy, and how these can evolve across the lifespan. The discussion will also consider how cultural, relational, generational and ability-based contexts may influence the narratives clients bring into career conversations.

The peer learning session will provide a space to reflect on practical tools introduced through the CICA webinar, including timelines, life role circles, life resumes, photo albums, goal maps and card sorts. Members will be encouraged to share how these tools could support clients to identify themes, clarify values, recognise what matters most and consider meaningful next steps.

This session may be of interest to members who would like to:

  • Explore narrative approaches to career counselling
  • Reflect on how client stories can support meaning-making and decision-making
  • Discuss practical tools that bring a client’s career story to life
  • Share insights with peers in a supportive professional learning environment
  • Consider how narrative approaches align with reflective, ethical and client-centred practice

CICA Professional Standards alignment

This session supports professional learning across several areas of the CICA Professional Standards, including professional knowledge, professional competence, ethical practice, diversity and social justice, and ongoing learning and professional development. It will provide an opportunity for members to connect theory with practice and reflect on how narrative career counselling can enrich career conversations with clients.

Who should attend

This session is suitable for career development practitioners who attended the CICA webinar, as well as members interested in narrative career counselling, reflective practice and peer discussion.
