QLD Seminar: Sunshine Coast Career Development Conference

This forum will present career counselling strategies, information and support networks to assist diverse young people in planning for their transition from school into work or further study.

Who is if for? Anyone who assists diverse young people to find their passion, helps them to understand their strengths; and guides them into developing rewarding career development outcomes. 

The Program: 

  • Career Counselling Strategies for Diverse Clients - Dr Jennifer Luke, CDAA QLD Division President, will be presenting relevant career theories that can be used as a framework when counselling students with diverse needs. 

  • Effective Career Support for Neurodiverse Young People - Nelle Frances, Autism Specialist and Consultant, will provide education on Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and the specific needs of young people with ASD as they transition through school and beyond.  

  • Pathway Support for Young People with a Disability - A panel will provide information about equity services provided at tertiary institutions and access to employment agencies. The panellists include Sarah McIntosh, Your Employment Solutions, Bailey Wemyss, Co-chair of UniSC Disability and Inclusion Student Group, Kate Davies, Student Counsellor at TAFE Queensland, and Harriet Goodman, Specialisterne Consultant.

  • Practical Resources for Students with Diverse Needs Dr Amy McKernan, Educational Consultant, will introduce an eLearning resource which will support the transition to post-school education and training for students with disabilities. 

    Maree Cansick
    Amanda Paton, and Gillian Meyers will explain how they use resources such as Coaching Young People for Success in their counselling sessions. This session will include a hands-on activity as well as an opportunity for guests to share other resources. 

  • Overview of Current Trends in Career Policy & Update on CDAA Membership - Dr Jennifer Luke.

There will also be opportunities for networking and a tour of Unity College.
